First LAU Head & Neck Symposium

The Gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury School of Medicine is organizing the First LAU Head and Neck Symposium. Led by highly specialized and renowned professionals from Lebanon and the United States, the symposium welcomes professionals from across a wide spectrum of healthcare fields to discuss the challenges of managing Head and Neck Oncology patients and fulfill the missions of education and research.

The aim of this Symposium is to highlight the latest topics pertaining to diagnosing and managing head and neck tumors, a challenging and fast evolving discipline. The latest techniques in diagnosis and management will be discussed by experts in the field. These include pearls in physical examination, various advanced imaging techniques, pathology and cutting edge current therapies, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation and surgery. Endoscopic skull-base surgery, ablative procedures, in addition to complex reconstructions including micro-vascular free flaps, will be illustrated.

A multidisciplinary approach to the management of head and neck tumors will be emphasized involving health care professionals from a wide range of specialties. Quality-of-life measures as well as hospice care will also be addressed as part of the symposium’s aim to emphasize multi-disciplinary care and treating the many facets of our patients’ disease process. The symposium will be concluded with an interactive round table discussion that includes case presentations with audience participation.
