Imagine Spring Residency: The Actor and the Stage with Roger Assaf

The Imagine Workshop and Concert Series (IWCS) is organizing a workshop on The Actor and the Stage by renowned Lebanese playwright, director and actor Roger Assaf, as part of its Spring 2020 Residency: From Far Away. 

The workshop is free of charge and open to the public.

Synopsis:

في الممارسات التجديدية للمسرح المعاصر، لم يعد الممثل هو المترجم الشفهي للشخصية الخيالية التي صورها الكاتب، ولكنه مبدع يشارك في إنتاج المشهد المسرحي في كلّ مكوّناته، الفكرية والفنّية. أكثر من ذلك ، لم يعد الديكور في خدمة النص ولكنه يخلق الجو التخيلي للعمل الذي يقوم به الممثلون.وفقا لهذا التصوّر، تقترح هذه الورشة لعبة إبداعية تنطوي على إنشاء فضاء وهمي في الفضاء الحقيقي الذي نشغله باستخدام المساحة والأغراض المتوفرة وبهدف تحويل فكرة أو حالة أو قصّة إلى مشهد  مسرحي معبّر وممتع.

Bio:

Roger Assaf is a Lebanese playwright, director and actor. He co-founded the College of Arts in the Lebanese University and was also a co-founder of Theatre de Beyrouth. He established a hakawati house in 1979 and Dawwar el Chams Center aimed at promoting theater among the youth. Assaf has won numerous prizes for his works including the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 2008.

IWCS strives to contribute to the cultural richness of our community by promoting top quality performances to a diverse local audience; welcoming internationally acclaimed guest artists to collaborate with LAU’s faculty, students and a diverse community; cultivating young artists and new audiences through traditional and innovative educational outreach initiatives, and introducing underprivileged communities to the power of arts.
