“Divided Cities and Power-Sharing Arrangements”

As part of the guest speaker series in his classes, Dr. Imad Salamey, LAU assistant professor of political science, will be hosting Dr. Scott Bollens, professor of planning, policy and design and Warmington Chair in Peace and International Cooperation at the University of California – Irvin, School of Social Ecology.

Over the past 15 years, Bollens has interviewed over 220 urban professionals and community advocates in Jerusalem, Belfast, Johannesburg, Nicosia (Cyprus), Sarajevo and Mostar (Bosnia), and Barcelona and Basque cities (Spain) about the role of urban policy and city building amidst nationalistic ethnic conflict and political transitions. He will be discussing his latest research on the city of Beirut in comparative urban perspective.
