Abstract:

The webinar will highlight the complex and evolving intersections between the conflicts in Syria and Ukraine, and in turn, the implications both ongoing conflicts have on one another. Given the scale and intensity of both wars, the discussions are expected to also expand on the impact they—and international responses to them—have on their respective regions and on the state of international peace and security. To do so, it will unpack critical themes like: the question of impunity and its role in weakening international law and norms, the impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on Syria and the Middle East, Russia’s foreign policy and military strategy, and the implications of both conflicts on European and transatlantic relationships and security.
