Panel 3: Civic Advocacy and International NGOs

September 14, 2013  |  2:30 PM – 4:00 PM

Civic advocacy in a globalized world tackles the issues that are of common interest to the citizens of all countries such as democratic governance, social justice, human rights, gender equality, environmental sustainability, disarmament and economic development. In this respect, international NGOs, by actively engaging local communities and civil societies, play an important role in creating broad coalitions and societal awareness for the understanding of these issues, their adoption in advocacy agendas and for the devising of local solutions.

The panel will address the international character of civic advocacy, the NGOs role in the transformation of international agendas into local contexts and problems of sustainability and inclusiveness of such local solutions in addition to papers that reveal experiences of NGOs in civic advocacy with respect to one or more of the above issues in the developing world
