LAU’s One Day on Earth

Byblos downtown

In collaboration with Byblos municipality, the Outreach and Civic Engagement unit at LAU Byblos will be participating in the yearly global event “One Day on Earth”.

ONE DAY ON EARTH is the first ever simultaneous filming event occurring in every country of the world. The main objective of this event is to advocate for change and incite people from all over the world to put all their efforts together in order to achieve a better, safer and healthier life style.

On Saturday 12th November 2011 the Lebanese American University will become part of this international community of thousands of filmmakers, hundreds of schools, and dozens of non-profit organizations, and will contribute to this unique global mosaic. This year our event will tackle one of the Millennium Development Goals which is the 7th goal, to “ensure environmental sustainability”. Working on an MDG will provide a framework for the entire student community to work together toward a better end, in the favor of their town and their country.

A campaign will be conducted to incite car drivers not to throw trash out of the car windows.

The campaign will start at 9:00 am, consisting of two major activities:

1.Student volunteers will distribute Sanita recycling bags to the cars passing by in Byblos down town, encouraging people to throw waste inside the bag, keep it in their car, and not throw anything outside their window.

2. Volunteers will be invited to print their hands on a large banner that will be posted on the spot for one week after the event.
