The Department of Social Sciences is hosting a lecture entitled “CBT:A Cognitive Conceptualization” conducted by Dr. Michel P. Nawfal MD, MA.
Bio:
Prior to graduating with Doctor of Medicine degree from the USA, Dr. Michel Nawfal earned a bachelor’s degree in biology at the American University of Beirut, where he also received a Master’s degree in Psychology paralleled by an internship in Psychotherapy at the American University Hospital. Dr. Nawfal further refined his psychotherapy skills in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) at the Beck Institute (USA). He’s currently a fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. Nawfal’s current research work is partly in the neurosciences, on exercise and mood - of which he was part of the publication of a paper titled “The Importance of Bio-imaging Brain Activity during Exercise.” He teaches at Notre-Dame University. In 2005, Nawfal was awarded the “Sheikh Fawzi Azar Prize” at AUB for writing a critique paper on the MMPI-2, the most widely used personality test. Since 2005, Nawfal has been a Full member of the American Psychological Association and a Board Member of the Lebanese Psychological Association, and is also registered with the Lebanese Order of Physicians.
