Syrian Conflict Coverage

The Department of Communication Arts, journalism emphasis, is organizing a conference in collaboration with Al-Monitor, entitled “Syrian Conflict Coverage”. Speakers will be discussing the role of media coverage in the Syrian conflict:
Moderator: Dr. Sami Nader is a columnist for Al-Monitor and an economist, Middle Eastern affairs analyst and communication expert. Nader currently directs the Levant Institute for Strategic Affairs. He is a professor for USJ University in Beirut and appears regularly as an analyst for economic and geostrategic matters on different Arabic and international channels, including CNN, Al Arabiya, Sky News, France 24, Al Jazeera, Al Jazeera English, LBC, MTV, ANB, Future News, Abu Dhabi TV, Dubai TV and Russia Today.
Speaker: Jean Aziz is a columnist for Al-Monitor, as well as columnist for Al-Akhbar and host of a weekly political talk show on OTV. He teaches communications at the American University of Technology and the Université Saint-Esprit De Kaslik in Lebanon.
Speaker: Amberin Zaman is an Istanbul-based writer who has covered Turkey for The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, The Daily Telegraph and Voice of America. A frequent commentator on Turkish television, she is currently Turkey correspondent for The Economist, a position she has held since 1999. She is a regular contributor to the German Marshall Fund of the United States’ “On Turkey” series. She has also written columns for major Turkish newspapers. Her areas of specialization include Turkish foreign policy, the Kurds and Turkish-Armenian reconciliation.
