About the Speaker: Julia Tierney is a doctoral student in City and Regional Planning at UC Berkeley where her focus is on urban theory and international development. For her dissertation she is researching the intersection of the politics of security and the neoliberal remaking of Beirut. She graduated with a Masters in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2012, and prior to that she worked with the World Bank on urban development projects in Brazil.
