“The Orthodox Church and Russia’s Politics in the Middle East”

The Department of Social Sciences and the Institute for Social Justice and Conflict Resolution are sponsoring a lecture on the role of the Russian Orthodox Church in shaping contemporary Russian foreign policy toward the Middle East. The event will take place in LAU Beirut on Wednesday, October 21.
Dr. Irina Papkova, a leading scholar of religion and international relations will be guest speaking in the lecture which is part of Dr. Imad Salamey’s graduate seminar on “Post-Arab Spring’s Communitarianism”. She is a research fellow of Georgetown University’s Berkley Center for Religion, Peace and World Affairs and the author of The Orthodox Church in Russian Politics (Oxford University Press,2011).
