English Speechwriting Summer Camp 2016
Beirut campus
The Department of English, as part of an initiative by the School of Arts and Sciences, is organizing its second annual English Creative Writing Summer Camp, targeting Grade 11 students. This year, the camp will focus on speechwriting skills, which are part of the department’s new B.A. in English along with professional writing skills.
In order to apply, students should register by filling out this form. Applicants should take their time while filling out the form in order to express their ideas about speechwriting, their experiences, and their expectations of the camp.
The number of participants is deliberately kept low, as only 15 students will be accepted, to ensure that each camper gets sufficient attention and guidance from the writer-instructor. During the camp, the accepted students will receive guidance and practice in basic skills and techniques in speechwriting in English.
Gradually, they will learn how to write better, express their ideas more effectively, and feel more confident in expressing themselves creatively. By the end of the camp, each participant would be expected to present a 3-5 min speech on the topic they would have worked on during the workshops.
Interested participants should take the following dates into consideration:
Applications submitted online: June 6, 2016
LAU contacts selected students: June 13, 2016
Confirmation of attendance expected from students: June 20, 2016
Summer Camp: June 27-July 1, 2016
All workshop sessions are held from 8:30 am to 1:15 pm, and students are expected to participate in the sessions in addition to the final speech presentations on Friday, July 1, at 4:00 pm.
