Celebrating Lebanese Olive Oil
211 E. 46th Street, New York
The New York Academic Center is hosting a discussion and exhibition titled: “Celebrating Lebanese Olive Oil”, co-hosted with the Consul General of Lebanon Majdi Ramadan.
The evening will start with a presentation by celebrity chef and TV host Julie Ann Sageer, known as “Julie Taboulie”, on the benefits of cultivating and cooking with Lebanese olive oil. Julie will make distinctions between filtered and non-filtered oil, and explain profiles, aromas, and the spectrum of flavors from regions throughout Lebanon’s opulent olive-carpeted countryside.
Born Julie Ann Sageer to an immigrant Lebanese family, Julie Taboulie is a celebrated chef, cookbook author, and TV host. She made her mark in the culinary world when in 2012 she produced the Emmy-nominated and award-winning PBS TV show series Cooking with Julie Taboulie. The series became the first and only Lebanese cooking show to air in North America. Today, Julie continues to make Middle Eastern cuisine mainstream with her brand-new PBS series Julie Taboulie’s Lebanese Kitchen. Her new book Julie Taboulie’s Lebanese Kitchen: Authentic Recipes for Fresh and Flavorful Mediterranean Home Cooking will be released by St. Martin’s Press in May 2017.
After the presentation, the olive oil exhibition and tasting will feature the following oil producers and coops:
Ghassan Kanaan, Hanna Daher, House of Zejd, J. Grove (JAZ), LELO Fine Foods, Nazih Saad, Nicholas Phares & Sons, Olea Coop, Olivares, Olive Harvest LLC, Qleyaa-Marjeyoun Coop, Willani SARL, and Zeit Zaman.
Programs at the LAU’s New York Academic Center are made possible through the generous support of: Lloyd Baroody & Zeina Mehio.
