English Speech Writing Summer Camp 2017
Beirut campus
The Department of English, as part of an initiative by the School of Arts and Sciences, is organizing its third annual summer camp, targeting Grade 10 and 11 students. The camp will focus on speechwriting skills, a part of the department’s B.A. in English, which also emphasizes professional writing.
In order to apply, students should register by filling out this form. Applicants should take their time while filling out the form in order to express their ideas about speechwriting, their experiences, and their expectations of the camp.
The number of participants is deliberately kept low, as only 15 students will be accepted, to ensure that each camper gets sufficient attention and guidance from the writer-instructor. During the camp, the accepted students will receive guidance and practice in basic skills and techniques in speech writing in English.
Gradually, they will learn how to write better, express their ideas more effectively, and feel more confident in expressing themselves creatively. During the week, participants will write and present on a variety of speech topics and genres, and by the end of the camp, each participant would be expected to present a 3-5 min speech on a final topic.
Interested participants should take the following dates into consideration:
Applications submitted online (here): June 5, 2017
LAU contacts selected students: June 12, 2017
Confirmation of attendance expected from students: June 16, 2017
Summer Camp: July 3-7, 2017
All workshop sessions are held from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm, and students are expected to participate in the sessions in addition to the final speech presentations on Friday July 7.
