SKAM, the Phenomenon of a Successful Web Series
AKSB 903, Beirut campus
The Department of Communication Arts is hosting a lecture titled: “SKAM - The Phenomenon of a Successful Web Series” by Nikolaj Christensen from the Danish School of Media & Journalism.
The Norwegian web series SKAM has been a huge success in Norway, Denmark, and Sweden as well as in other parts of the world. It is about a group of teenagers in high school, but its audience goes from tweens to 50+. It is an example of successful storytelling and very successful distribution on social media. The themes are daring (from love and intrigues to homosexuality, bipolarity, and being a young Muslim woman in a Scandinavian environment) and told with great honesty and truthfulness. The series has been able to create a sense of urgency among the audience who have followed the characters on Instagram and blogs, consuming small clips during the week, which by the end of the week have been put together to a whole episode.
This lecture is part of the B.A. in Journalism.
