Architecture and the Digital, A Question of Materiality
AKSB 904, Beirut campus
The School of Architecture & Design is hosting a lecture titled: “Architecture and the Digital: A Question of Materiality” by Antoine Picon.
Antoine Picon is the G. Ware Travelstead Professor of the History of Architecture and Director of Research at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University. He is also chairman of the Fondation Le Corbusier.
His lecture will use the notion of materiality as a thread. From the Renaissance to the digital age, major turning points in design can be interpreted as changes in the way the materiality of architecture has been understood. The impact of digital technologies on architecture in particular must be envisaged from such a perspective. Materiality is not only key in understanding where the discipline is going, it enables also to approach the difficult issue of the agency of architecture.
