Fighting Gender-Based Discrimination with Arts

The Institute for Women’s Studies in the Arab World - IWSAW at LAU and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia - ESCWA are hosting a roundtable discussion titled: “Fighting Gender-Based Discrimination with Arts.”
The discussion will feature actress and artist Natasha Choufani, Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Fashion Design Program at LAU Jason Steel, and artists and activists Michelle and Noel Keserwany. The event will be moderated by Reem Maghribi, founder of the organization Sharq.
During the event, the winners of the regional arts competition organized by ESCWA and IWSAW will be announced. The competition attracted dozens of submissions from young people from the whole Arab region, who submitted paintings, photos, videos and poems on the theme “#HearMeToo: Speak up Against Violence Against Women and Girls.” The best submissions will be showcased at the event, alongside original creations by LAU fashion design students.
