North American Alumni Conference

LAU NY is sponsoring a special weekend conference for alumni and friends focusing on the recent growth and development at LAU, issues facing Lebanon, as well as various aspects of alumni and constituents’ involvement with the university.

The conference will feature presentations by VP for Advancement George Najjar, Assistant VP for Alumni Relations Abdallah Al Khal, and special keynote speakers Dr. George Jabbour (George Washington University) and Dr. Sumitra Dutta (Cornell SC Johnson College of Business).

Registration is free but must be done in advance.

Fri. Feb. 22:

7:00–8:30 a.m. – Reception and a brief welcoming word from Dr. George K. Najjar, VP for University Advancement

Optional: Drinks afterward with some of the NY/NJ Chapter members.

Sat. Feb. 23:

9:00–10:00 a.m. – Breakfast and welcome

10:00–11:30 a.m. – Session I:  “LAU in the 21st Century: The Dynamics of Transformation.” Presented by Dr. George K. Najjar with Q&A following.

11:30–11:45 a.m. – Break

11:45 a.m.–1:00 p.m. – Session II: “Oil price fluctuations and their impact on Middle Eastern economy.” Presented by Dr. George Jabbour, Associate Dean for Executive Programs at George Washington University School of Business.

1:00–2:00 p.m. – Lunch

2:00–3:30 p.m. – Session II: “The Special Role of Alumni in the Future of LAU: Prospects and Challenges.” Dr. George K. Najjar, Assistant VP for Alumni Relations (Beirut) Abdallah Al Khal, and Director of Alumni and Special Projects (New York) Edward Shiner.

3:30–3:45 p.m. – Break

3:45–5:00 p.m. – Session III: “Global Competitiveness Index.” Presented by Dr. Sumitra Dutta, Professor of Management and former founding dean of Cornell SC Johnson College of Business, and former dean at INSEAD (“the Business School for the World”).

7:30 p.m. – Dinner at a nearby restaurant, TBD

Sun. Feb 24:

9:00–10:00 a.m. – Farewell breakfast and session IV: “Where Do We Go From Here? A Follow-Up Framework” (wrap-up session).

All events will take place at LAU NY, except for the dinner on Saturday.
