Analgesia and sedation for critically ill patients during COVID-19 is a hot topic. During this Grand Round, the speakers will discuss how to evaluate patients in the ICU for pain and agitation using validated screening tools. They will also review the best ways to apply key pharmacokinetic/ pharmacodynamics and safety concepts in the selection, dosing and monitoring of analgesics and sedatives in critically ill patients. In addition, they will present the contingency care strategies to preserve existing medication supplies for the management of sedation and analgesia in COVID-19 patients in the setting of drug shortages and patient surges.
