Dialogues in Time: Light, Time and Architecture in Art

Montreal artist Frank Mulvey will present his artwork and the work of selected fellow artists, focusing on architecture as part of a shifting puzzle of time, experience and place. Mulvey’s drawings reveal facets of an alternate world derived from common experience, but featuring subtly unusual elements. Each image can be likened to a single frame from a film noir that never was, where the fatalism of this genre is converted into optimism, and from which existential questioning leads towards a hopeful future.
Frank Mulvey is best known for producing charcoal drawings of imaginary and shadowy architectural settings. His characteristic steel-framed black and white works are represented in the collections of the Musee du Quebec, the Canada Council Art Bank, the Ministere des affaires exterieures (Ottawa), as well as numerous corporate and private collections. He has been honoured with awards and grants from the Ministere des affaires culturelles du Quebec and The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation, and has received a Director General’s teaching excellence award from Dawson College. Frank Mulvey is the author of the art books Voyage (2012) and The Stillness of Time (2003).
