Biography:

Rana Raouda was born in Beirut in 1961. She studied Fine Arts at LAU and graduated in 1983. She went on to study in the US, at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington D.C, at the Torpedo Factory in Virginia and at the Monotype Workshop in New Mexico.

She presented her work internationally in Italy, France, England, Switzerland, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.

In 1997, she obtained the Young Artist Award at the Salon d’Automne, Sursock Museum, Beirut. In 2007, she won the first prize in Ornans, France and in Montreux, Switzerland.
In 2013, she was awarded the Golden Painting Prize by the National Federation of French Culture for her artwork, Blue Velvet.

Her work is exhibited as part of Sursock Museum’s permanent collection in Beirut.

Some of her private collections are exhibited at: Saint Elie Church, Kantari Beirut; Annahar Newspaper, Beirut; Hermes Art Collection, Dubai; and the Chaplaincy of Annecy Hospital, France.

Reviewing one of her paintings, Roman Art Critic Marco Tonelli wrote: “Rana Raouda’s painting unmistakably leans towards a subtle and tenuous line where the artist transforms her inner vision into an autonomous, hypersensitive substance, with the implications and aspirations of an evident spirituality. She thus places herself on the historical side of abstract expressionism, which saw extreme and oscillating attitudes take on between the tragic and frenetic gestuality of Pollock and the inaction painting of  Rothko or Newman, where the iconoclastic apparition opened the doors wide to mystical and sacred scenery and visions.”
