A Musical Journey Through Spain

The Department of Communication, Arts and Languages cordially invites you to a lecture on Spanish music with neurosurgeon Georges Haddad.

Dr. Haddad will delve into the rich history of Spanish music, spanning from the 15th century to the present day. Covering classical music, Flamenco, and traditional folk Spanish music, the lecture will offer a comprehensive understanding of the diverse musical traditions.

At the end of the lecture, Lecturer Reem Deeb, accompanied by Education and Performing Arts student Cecile Kallab on the electric piano, will perform the piece La Paloma by the Spanish composer Yradier to showcase the beauty and depth of Spanish musical heritage.

About the lecturer

Dr. Georges Haddad is a neurosurgeon who specialized in skull base surgery. He earned his BS in Physics with distinction and later an MD with distinction from AUB in 1985. Dr. Haddad’s commitment extends beyond medicine to include teaching and community service. He is passionate about music and regularly delivers talks on the subject in Lebanon, and has played an active role on the boards of several music festivals, such as Al Bustan. This marks his second appearance at LAU, having previously delivered a talk in October 2022 titled “Back to Bach.”

 

About the musician

Dr. Reem Deeb specializes in voice performance, history and literature. She has also minored in music education and choral conducting at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, USA. Her repertoire includes several recitals, oratorio, opera and musical theater roles and productions. Additionally, Dr. Deeb is an active member of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and is an associate organist and soprano soloist at the National Evangelical Church of Beirut. She enjoys collaborating and presenting many events with international communities and diplomats to spread cultural awareness, peace and joy through music.
