This webinar will delve into the critical role of states in securing reparations for violations under international law. It will provide an overview of state obligations, exploring mechanisms and strategies available for obtaining reparations through legal, diplomatic and advocacy channels.

By examining case studies, the session will highlight challenges faced by states in this process and discuss innovative approaches to overcome them. Participants will gain insights into international mechanisms like the ICC and ICJ and domestic initiatives to understand how states can effectively support victims and promote accountability.

The talk will also focus on:

  • State Obligations in Securing Reparations: Understanding the responsibilities of states under international law to obtain reparations for victims of violations.
  • Legal and Diplomatic Mechanisms: Examining the use of legal avenues and diplomatic strategies to pursue reparative justice.

Carine Tohme
Managing Partner at Tohme Law Firm

Carine Tohme is the managing partner of Tohme Law Firm. She is a formal member of the International Committee of the Red Cross and has a higher master’s degree in international cooperation, humanitarianism and development policy.
