Nanoparticles are particles with sizes ranging from one to 100 nanometers and exhibit unique physical, chemical and biological properties compared to their bulk counterparts.
Due to their small size, large surface area and high reactivity, nanoparticles have revolutionized multiple fields, including medicine, electronics and environmental science. Over the past few decades, research has accelerated on nanoparticle synthesis, characterization and functionalization.
In this talk, Dr. Malaeb will give an introduction to this field of research and then highlight LAU’s recent progress in the synthesis and characterization of various types of nanoparticles and how they serve various applications. Dr. Malaeb will also briefly present recent photoemission spectroscopy results taken at the synchrotron facility and our future plans.
Speaker
Walid Malaeb
Assistant Professor, Department of Physical Sciences
Dr. Malaeb joined LAU as a full-time assistant professor of physics in Fall 2022. He obtained a PhD in Physics from the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences at the University of Tokyo, Japan in September 2009 and stayed at the same university as a project researcher at the Institute for Solid State Physics (ISSP) until 2015.
