Launching of
Al-Raida Journal and
Our Feminine Memory Book
Adnan Kassar School of Business Room 903, LAU Beirut campus
As part of the UNDP grant: “Women in Leadership”, the Arab Institute for Women (AiW) at LAU will be holding a launching event for the special issue of Al-Raida Journal and the Our Feminine Memory Book.
Background & Objectives
In recognition of the institute’s 50th anniversary, the AiW will be organizing the launch of a special edition of Al-Raida Journal, which celebrates the advancements made by women and gender equality advocates across various realms, ranging from politics and feminist theories to environmental activism and efforts against violence. This issue underscores our commitment to spotlighting the achievements of leading women over at least 5 decades of perseverance and determination. It will truly pay homage to the legacy that has shaped our collective achievements. The issue will be released as soft and hard copies in English and in Arabic.
Simultaneously, the AiW will launch the Our Feminine Memory (OFM) Book. The OFM book is a biographical compilation of 20th-century Lebanese women writers, educators, journalists, political activists, doctors, and professionals who were avant-garde in their achievements. Through well-researched biographies, which include rich descriptions and insightful anecdotes, the e-book brings to light both the struggles and achievements of around 35 women. The e-book is designed to educate and entertain through engaging narratives, attempting to bring old successes to life again. It allows the readers, whether history enthusiasts, researchers, or curious thinkers, to explore the unique and remarkable journeys of women who inspire until today. Overall, the e-book will serve as an important archival reference to the people’s collective cultural memory in Lebanon.
The launch event promises to be a captivating moment, bringing together a diverse audience and fostering engaging discussions. This dual celebration reflects AiW’s commitment to honoring and showcasing the transformative contributions of women over the past five decades, marking a significant milestone in the institute’s journey towards gender equality and empowerment.
