The Brown Bag Lecture Series
NICOL HALL 406 & VIA WEBEX
The Department of English and Creative Arts at LAU’s School of Arts and Sciences cordially invites you to a lecture by Jeremy Holmes, former Chief Operating Officer of Universities UK, as part of The Brown Bag Lecture Series.
Shakespeare’s Lost Women
This lecture explores the recurring theme of women being lost, found, or symbolically brought back to life in Shakespeare’s plays. While this motif is especially prominent in the late romances, it also appears across Shakespeare’s comedies and tragedies. The talk examines these moments of apparent or illusory death and considers their significance for character development, self-discovery, and transformation—both for women and men.
Plays discussed include Twelfth Night, Romeo and Juliet, Antony and Cleopatra, The Winter’s Tale, Pericles, Cymbeline, Much Ado About Nothing, As You Like It, Othello, King Lear, and The Merchant of Venice.
