Biotech as a Tool for Change: An Entrepreneur’s Story
The Gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury Health Sciences Center auditorium, LAU Byblos campus
LAU’s School of Arts and Sciences is thrilled to invite you to a special seminar featuring alumnus Mazen Rizk (BS ‘07; MS ’09), founder and CEO of Infinite Roots, Germany.
Dr. Rizk, a proud Byblos native, earned his master’s in Molecular Biology from LAU in 2009 and went on to complete a PhD in Synthetic Biotechnology at the Technical University of Hamburg, Germany. His groundbreaking research on biofuels laid the foundation for a remarkable journey in sustainable food innovation.
After gaining industry experience developing sugar-reduction and salt-reduction products, prebiotics, and antibiotic alternatives, Dr. Rizk founded Infinite Roots in 2018. The company harnesses the power of mushroom roots, or mycelium, through an innovative, resource-efficient fermentation process to produce one of the world’s most sustainable and versatile foods. Today, Infinite Roots employs nearly 70 people from over 20 countries and recently secured a $58 million Series B funding round, the largest single investment in mycelium technology in Europe to date.
Join us to hear Dr. Rizk share his journey from LAU to leading a global sustainable food venture, and learn how vision, science, and innovation come together to shape the future of food.
