14th Annual Creative Writing Competition
Lebanese American University
Call for Submissions
The Department of English and Creative Arts at the School of Arts and Sciences is pleased to invite you to participate in its 14th Creative Writing Competition, an annual event that aims to encourage and recognize the literary talents of LAU undergraduates, graduates and alumni.
This year’s edition, titled The Geography of Remembrance: Remembering Those We Have Lost, focused on the rituals, monuments, objects, stories and moments through which we remember meaningful people, places and experiences. Every culture, family and individual develops unique practices of remembrance—from annual ceremonies to quiet conversations, from cherished possessions to familiar spaces—forming a sacred geography of memory that connects the past to the present.
You are invited to craft a personal narrative of 1,000–1,500 words exploring your memories of someone, something, a place or a moment that holds lasting significance for you. This might include a childhood home, a grandparent or mentor, a friendship that has changed over time, a family tradition, a moment of growth and joy or one of grief and loss. You may reflect on the rituals, objects, spaces or memories that keep this connection alive, and on how remembrance has shaped your identity, emotions and sense of continuity.
Don’t miss this opportunity to unleash your writing skills and share your inner thoughts with fellow LAU wordsmiths.
An award ceremony will take place on April 17, 2026, during which the winners will receive monetary prizes and certificates.
Submissions are open until Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
