Two Film Screenings: “Jeita” and “Meroe”

LAU-Louis Cardahi Foundation, Byblos

The LAU-Louis Cardahi Foundation cordially invites you to watch the films Jeita and Meroe, in collaboration with Beirut Art Film Festival (BAFF).

JEITA

In this documentary, Rami Kodeih, looks back at the history of the discovery of the Jeita Grotto in Lebanon, one of nature’s natural masterpieces. The film director gives us some exceptional images from this place, unique in the Middle East, and interviews the various protagonists as to the future of this natural heritage.

MEROE

A film by Nicolas Khoury, explores the ancient island that served as the capital of the Kingdom of Kush from the eighth century BC to the fourth century AD. Meroe was a great power of the ancient world. Its pyramids and remarkable burial monuments bear witness to centuries of exchange with Pharaonic Egypt, Greece, and later Rome.

Nicolas Khoury and Rami Kodeih are two Lebanese directors, both graduates of ALBA, whose careers span documentary and fiction, and whose films have been screened at numerous international festivals. While the former develops an intimate and personal cinematic approach, the latter explores the aftermath of the civil war and social margins in Lebanon. For Al Jazeera Documentary, Nicolas Khoury, director of MEROE, edited JEITA, while Rami Kodeih, director of JEITA, edited MEROE, in a two-way creative exchange between the two filmmakers.
