Wadad: An Ant That Digs in Stone

The Arab Institute for Women (AiW) is pleased to invite you to a special performance of Wadad: An Ant That Digs in Stone, in celebration of and pride in the play’s nomination for the Times Higher Education Awards – Arab World 2026, under the category “Research Project of the Year: Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.”

This performance carries particular significance as it marks 44 years since the abduction of Adnan Halwani on September 24, 1982.

The play tells the story of Wadad Halwani and her ongoing journey in search of her husband, Adnan, as well as her sustained struggle to uncover the fate of Lebanon’s missing and forcibly disappeared.

With the support of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES), performances of this theatrical work continue throughout 2026. The play was originally produced under the Women’s Participation in Leadership (WPIL) programme, implemented by UN Women and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with the generous support of the Government of Canada.
