The AI Disruption: The Future of Work, Human Potential, and the Power to Adapt

LAU Byblos Campus, Science Building, Lecture Hall (Room 402)

As part of the SOE seminar series, the School of Engineering is pleased to invite you to the semester entitled The AI Disruption: The Future of Work, Human Potential, and the Power to Adapt.

Abstract:

Artificial Intelligence is transforming the world at an unprecedented pace, reshaping industries, redefining professional roles, and challenging traditional approaches to education, work, and problem-solving. For the next generation of engineers, understanding this transformation is no longer optional; it is essential to preparing for the future of their profession.

This presentation explores how AI is changing the nature of work. It examines the implications for engineering and other professions, highlighting the distinction between automating individual tasks and transforming entire occupations. It also considers the current capabilities and limitations of AI, emphasizing the continuing importance of human judgment, creativity, critical thinking, curiosity, and accountability. Beyond understanding the disruption, the presentation focuses on the opportunities it creates. It advocates a new model of professional development in which strong engineering fundamentals are complemented by AI literacy, interdisciplinary thinking, adaptability, and the ability to collaborate effectively with intelligent systems.
